GreenerU is a turnkey* energy solutions provider. We help our clients manage all aspects of their energy efficiency and mechanical/electrical infrastructure needs, providing a single point of responsibility for everything from planning through commissioning and beyond. We offer an in-depth understanding of campus energy infrastructure and professional standards associated with their engineering, construction, and operation. This includes oversight of the entire planning, design, and delivery process with an expert eye, ensuring that potentially costly mistakes are avoided; management of the broad range of technical expertise that may be needed; and an understanding of the financial complexity of decisions associated with utility infrastructure investment.
During the investigation phase, GreenerU can perform a variety of technical analyses, including ASHRAE Level 1 and 2 audits and a variety of specialty technical and feasibility studies. We develop customized recommendations for energy reduction on campuses including technical development along with estimates for implementation costs, energy reduction, and cost savings. When appropriate, GreenerU performs a “walking focus group,” which engages building occupants to gather users’ inputs on behaviors, uses, building operations, and comfort.
Throughout any process, GreenerU remains engaged with key institutional personnel to ensure a collaborative process of decision-making and incorporation of institutional knowledge into our work. GreenerU meets with stakeholders on a regular basis to communicate plans, minimize disruptions, and gather feedback on the work being performed. With staff expertise in change management and meeting facilitation, we bring nuanced skill in drawing out diverse voices and helping groups navigate difficult discussions; an understanding of the stakeholder landscape and a strategic approach to address key concerns; and tools for effective communication.
Whether installing a new boiler, upgrading lighting systems, creating a building automation system, or optimizing existing equipment, GreenerU manages the design of system changes and works with institutions to ensure that projects are designed to meet institutions’ multifaceted needs. We provide engineering and construction documents, energy modeling, cost estimates, project schedules, and expert project management with a particular awareness and sensitivity to the ongoing operations of the buildings in which we work.
GreenerU manages the entire implementation process to ensure that it stays on schedule and on budget. In addition to expert project management, we provide a clear and transparent process by creating space for continual feedback and adaptation. We implement energy conservation measures from HVAC to lighting to building automation systems to combined heat and power (CHP) and more.
At any given time, there could be dozens or even hundreds of small (and not-so-small) failures in a campus’s HVAC systems. The trick is locating the problem. Ongoing optimization, sometimes called continuous commissioning, involves using data connected to building automation systems combined with pre-programmed logic sequences to identify problems and malfunctions as soon as they happen—before they waste energy or severely impact occupants. GreenerU performs ongoing monitoring built on the SkySpark® platform, which alerts building managers to equipment anomalies that may otherwise go undetected.
* Turnkey: program, project, solution, or system where the contractor or provider undertakes the entire responsibility from design through completion and commissioning. The client or customer only has to turn the proverbial key to make everything function as it should.
