While Deep Energy Retrofits allow buildings to quickly decarbonize, they can be expensive and impractical for many affordable housing providers. An alternative way to decarbonize is the Zero-Over-Time approach, which takes a more gradual approach to decarbonize aligned with the building’s deferred maintenance needs, funding availability, and other strategic considerations. On October 20, 2026, GreenerU and Rethinking Power Management covered the pro’s and con’s of this approach, best practices, and case studies.
